City Is Unfair, Says Two Sports Clubs

The Windsor Aquatic Club and the LaSalle-Windsor Special Olympics say waiving $75,000 in fees for Diving Canada is unfair.

Fees that include a local diving club have been waived for the next three years.

Cynthia Lane of LaSalle-Windsor Special Olympics says the approval contravenes city policy.

"I'm disappointed that we don't seem to do things in a fair and equitable manner," she says.

However, Mayor Drew Dilkens disagrees.

The Windsor Aquatic Club says it spends $10,000 a month on rentals, etc.

The city says Diving Canada will better use the facility and the under-utilized diving boards.

The mayor says a FINA diving event in April will be televised worldwide.

Lane says she's going to return to council and ask for her own waiver of fees, adding that she feels the city's decision is discriminatory.

"I will agree that the facility is under-utilized in terms of the diving but I think you need to have fair and equitable policies," Newton says.
