UPDATE: Man Charged With First Degree Murder

Windsor police have charged 45-year-old David Formosa with first degree murder in the city's first homicide of 2017.

Officers were called to a Windsor hospital just before 5:30pm Tuesday after a 19-year-old man showed up suffering from a gunshot wound.

"It wasn't [by] an ambulance," says Sergeant Steve Betteridge. "He was driven there by some acquaintances of his and investigators have spoke with those people involved with transporting him."

The case was reclassified as a homicide when the victim succumbed to his injuries.

Their investigation led officers to a home at 760 University Ave. E between Marentette St. and Louis St. The house remains roped off.

Police say the victim knew the suspect who was arrested at an apartment in the 8700-block of Riverside Dr. E, east of Dieppe St. later in the evening.

Investigators would like to hear from anyone who may have information about the shooting.

"Please give us a call, even if you think it's a small minor detail," says Betteridge. "It may be something investigators are looking for."

They can be reached at 519-255-6700 ext. 4830. Tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 519-258-8477 or online at www.catchcrooks.com.
