Bye Bye Amherstburg Arena

The AMA arena in downtown Amherstburg is going to be demolished.

Mayor Aldo Dicarlo says the building is deteriorating and has become unsafe. He adds that the town didn’t want the liability.

“It fell into a state of disrepair sometime ago, and it’s time to take it down,” he says.

Jones Group will perform the demolition at a cost of $138,000, and Dicarlo says the arena should be demolished sometime in May.

“It’s maybe one of the areas where the new school could go, but it’s a discussion we’d have to have with the school board,” says Dicarlo, adding that the land will be considered surplus once the building is torn down.

Dicarlo says the building will be missed to some degree.
