Tecumseh Ward Changes Coming

The Town of Tecumseh will be changing ward boundaries for the 2018 municipal election.

After a review of the boundaries, Strategy Corp recommended keeping the current number of councillors, but reducing the size of Ward 1 and adding an additional ward.

Consultant John Matheson says the changes are important so that representation is fair for all residents.

"With all the growth coming to the middle of Tecumseh it puts a lot of stress on just the way the numbers work when it comes to having the wards be equal and that's the thing the system needs to have in order to be fair for everybody," says Matheson.

Council has agreed to review the boundaries every 10 years to ensure they are aligned with population figures.

"We want to make sure that the community is well represented and it's an even keel for obviously the representatives who are going to work on behalf of the constituency," says Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara.

The proposed changes can be seen in the image below however town administration is still tweaking the boundaries for the final bylaw.
