Women Marching In Windsor Saturday

A Windsor woman has organized a march to stand in solidarity with the women marching in Washington Saturday.

Elaine Weeks is inviting anyone who wants to support the cause to come to the Bert Weeks Memorial Garden along the riverfront at 1:30pm.

"After gauging some response from people ahead of time, it sounded like people were interested in doing something to so I thought why not march in solidarity along the river where we can see Detroit," says Weeks.

Weeks is asking people to wear red and carry signs promoting peace, love and equality.

The march in Washington and the coinciding event here in Windsor aim to highlight how far the world still needs to go to achieve gender equality in light of President Donald Trump's election.

"It doesn't help really change things but it might make people feel better, and it's better than just sitting there and stewing," says Weeks.

A contingent of around 60 Windsor women are joining the march in Washington Saturday.
