Murder Charge Dropped In Quick Case

Scott Quick is a free man.

A charge of first degree murder in the death of his estranged wife Nancy Quick has been dropped.

The Crown made the decision saying, although the two were pursuing a divorce back in 2006, there was no evidence to suggest he wanted to kill her.

Nancy was struck by a stolen van on the morning of February 23, 2006 in Emeryville, as she walked to work at St. William Elementary School. She succumbed to her injuries five days later in a Detroit hospital.

Quick, who was arrested for the crime back in March of 2015, said he is relieved.

"I'm looking forward to resuming my life with my children and my family," he tearfully explained.

Quick described his time in custody, since March 2015, as "hell."

Defence lawyer Pat Ducharme says there was one testimony that, to him, made a big difference in this case.

"There were two witnesses, a mother and her son, who watched the person who had stolen the van [that hit Nancy] get out of the van. That individual was starkly different than Mr. Quick," said Ducharme.

Another piece of evidence that worked against the Crown was timing.

Surveillance footage showed Quick at a Tim Horton's on Lauzon Rd. and Wyandotte St. in Windsor at a time, that both the Crown and defence agreed, made it impossible for him to be the one to hit over Nancy in the stolen van.

Quick said he is unsure whether or not he'll return to life in Belleville.

The only words he wanted to offer to the family of Nancy, as he stood outside of the Superior Court if Justice in Windsor were, "Peace and love."
