Leamington Hosting National Racquetball Tournament

The Leamington Kinsmen Recreation Complex will host the 2017 Racquetball Canada Junior National Championships.

From April 25-29 around 60 athletes from across Canada will come to Leamington to compete for a chance to represent Canada at the Junior World Championships.

"They train, they go through provincial tournaments to qualify and play here at the nationals. From here the top two from each division for the older kids can represent Team Canada in the World Championships," says Andrew Dick with the host committee.

Dick says there are actually few facilities that can host a tournament like this.

"We had to put in a formal bid and it came down to two centres, one was Brossard, Quebec, which is basically Montreal and we put a lot of effort into our bid and we got it," says Dick.

The Leamington program is hosting an open house on December 20 from 6:30pm-7:30pm at the Leamignton Recreation Complex in hopes of getting more local youth involved in the sport. They say racquetball is easy to pick up and there could be a chance for more people to participate in the exciting event.

The host committee is expecting around 150 people to travel to Leamington for the event. The group is also looking for volunteers and around $10,000 of corporate sponsors to help host the five day event.
