Essex Windsor EMS Is Getting A New Base

Starting January 17, the Essex-Windsor EMS station on Dougall Ave. at the EC Row Exwy. in Windsor will be demolished.

Essex County Council has signed off on tearing the current station down and building a new one at the cost of $2.5-million.

EMS Chief Bruce Krauter says it'll be a lot bigger, with three more ambulance bays and a much larger crew lounge.

"That station is just not conducive to the number of crews that we currently have that we are trying to schedule and rotate through that station," he says.

The new building will also be set further back from the road, a feature Krauter believes will improve response times because crews will be able to get out onto Dougall Ave. easier.

Construction is expected to finish in September 2017.

Council also approved $859,000 for five new ambulances.
