The flood that impacted homes in Windsor, Tecumseh and Lakeshore resulted in nearly $108-million in insured damage according to the Insurance Bureau of Canada.
Over 6,000 home, auto, and business claims were filed with insurers following the flood that struck after heavy rain fall on the night of September 28 and 29.
"Flood events are happening across Canada with more frequency and with greater severity," said Kim Donaldson, vice president, Ontario, IBC. "It is important that Canadians understand their insurance policies and that they know what's covered before bad weather strikes."
Many residents did not have flood or sewer back-up insurance and were not covered for the damage in their homes. The total amount of damage was likely much higher than the $108-million in claimed damage.
