UPDATE: University Student Dies In West Windsor Fire

A 19-year-old University of Windsor student has died following a fire on Rankin Ave. Wednesday morning.

Investigators from the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal and the Windsor Fire Service are continuing to investigate.

The blaze started around 4:30am Wednesday at 227 Rankin Ave., not far from the University of Windsor.

"I could feel the heat from my window across the street. It was very, very hot like huge flames every where. It happened quick too, at first it was like nothing bad and then all of sudden it was crazy," says neighbour Sara Patrick.

Police have the street blocked off to traffic between Riverside Dr. W and University Ave. W.

Windsor Fire Services spokesman John Lee has confirmed one person has died while five others are at two Windsor hospitals. The injuries for three victims are not considered serious, the condition of two others is not known at this time.

So far, there is no indication what started the fire or how much damage it caused.
