Spitfires Fall to Flint 4-1

The Windsor Spitfires managed to score first, but the Flint Firebirds scored four more unanswered goals to take the game 4-1 Saturday at Dort Federal Event Center.

Gabriel Vilardi did put the Spits on the board first with his fifth goal of the season, a power-play score with just 35 seconds remaining in the period.  Jeremiah Addison and Julius Nattinen picked up assists with that goal.  But that would be all the scoring Windsor would do in the game.

Flint's Everett Clark would tie it up at 9:31 in the second period, and just over three minutes later, Luke Kirwan would stump his former Windsor teammates with a power-play goal.

The game remained close until late in the third period when the Spitfires pulled goaltender Michael DiPietro for the extra attacker.  Flint took advantage with two empty-netters.  The first was from Dane Johnstone, the second just 13 seconds later from Hunter Holmes.  It was the first season goals of the season for both.

Flint welcomes Kingston for a tussle on Sunday night, while the Spitfires host the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds during their customary Thursday night game at the WFCU Centre.
