Tecumseh Out With Flooding Stats

The Town of Tecumseh is out with some interesting statistics regarding the record rainfall the town received in late September.

The town says flood debris pick-up is substantially completed as a crew — at its peak on October 13 — of 30 workers, eight packer trucks, seven waste trucks and four backhoes worked to collect more than 1,000 metric tons of material was picked up over a week and a half.

According ot the town, about 600-million gallons of water was pumped out by the town's eight pump stations during the storm — the same amount as 900 Olympic size swimming pools or nine seconds of water over Niagara Falls.

On September 29, the town says 110 mm of rain fell in a two hour span as part of a 195 mm deluge of rain between 3am and 3pm. The next worst storm in Tecumseh was September 2011 when 89 mm of rain fell in a 12 hour period.

The town says more than 1,300 people have completed the flood survey available on the town's website. Residents are encourage to fill out the survey if they haven't already. Click here for the survey.

A special thanks was issued to Samaritan's Purse Canada by the town for the group's help in responding to residents in need. The group had 273 volunteers who helped 126 residents clean-out their flood damaged homes.

The town reminds residents the Disaster Recovery Assistance program is still available to residents upon application. The program covers overland flooding, infiltration flooding and sump pump failure.
