Deadline Set for FCA Negotiations

A deadline has been set for talks between Unifor and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

A tentative deal must be in place by October 10 at 11:59pm or employees will head to the picket line.

Unifor Local 444 President Dino Chiodo says based on the deal reached with GM he is confident he will have a positive deal to bring to his members by that time.

Unifor and General Motors ratified their agreement Monday and talks immediately shifted to FCA.

The GM deal provides $554-million in investment in Canadian plants providing the plant in Oshawa with new product. It converts 700 temporary positions to permanent full-time status. Over the life of the contract, workers will receive a 4% wage increase and a lump sum total of $12,000 over four years. There’s also a signing bonus of $6,000.

Chiodo says they are looking for some key investments and commitments to plants across Ontario as part of the agreement.
