Kingsville's On A Hiring Spree

Now that the Town of Kingsville has hired a new CAO and an executive assistant, the town needs to fill four more positions.

Mayor Nelson Santos says the town started a review of staffing levels earlier in the year, but since then more positions have opened up.

"Along the way, we've had a couple retirements. We've had some illnesses. They're on extended leave," says Santos. "We're also looking to try to bring back some of the numbers of our staffing levels that we had positions for but not refilled."

The positions include a public works manager and a part-time worker in the fire department who will start in January.

Santos says the provincial requirement that firefighters inspect migrant housing has put pressure on the fire department. There are 220 properties that need inspecting, and staffing levels in that department haven't changed over the past decade.

"The report that came from the fire department and the HR [human resources] department identified how adding a part-time position would allow for us to keep up with the demand," he says.

The town is also looking for a municipal services manager and an engineering coordinator.
