UWSA Launches Bike Share

The University of Windsor Student Alliance is launching a bike share program across campus.

The bike share includes 40 bikes with eight stations throughout the University of Windsor campus, including the downtown campus.

UWSA President Moussa Hamadani says they've been working on the two-year pilot program for a long time to give students alternative options of transportation.

"To foster an eco-friendly, affordable option for students. It's not meant to be a dependent means of transportation however it's good for leisure, for decompression for students," says Hamadani.

To use the bike share students must download an app, or go online to get a code to unlock the bike. They can then ride the bike where they need to go and return it when finished. It costs $15 for a one-year membership. Each individual ride is free the first hour then $2 and hour after that.  The bike-share app and website are expected to be active within the next couple of weeks.

The cost of implementing the program was split between the UWSA, the University of Windsor and the University Alumni Association.
