Major Project In Leamington Underway

Shovels are in the ground on one of Leamington's biggest ever projects.

Construction has started on an estimated $8-million job to add sanitary sewers along Point Pelee Dr. and Bevel Line Rd. in the southern most part of the town. The work along Point Pelee Dr. started on August 22 while the work along Bevel Line Rd. is set to start on October 9.

When the contract for the job was awarded to J&J Lepara Infrastructures Inc. the municipality's director of infrastructure described the project as "one of the most significant" ever done in the town.

The municipality is looking to deal with raw sewage discharging into the watercourse and meet the town's growing needs.

Crews are set to be out working from 7am to 7pm Monday to Friday. In addition to the new sanitary sewers, new forcemains, pump stations and watermain upgrades will be made.

The project is expected to be fully completed by July 31, 2017.

Along with Point Pelee Dr. and Bevel Line Rd. Mersea Rd. C and Ellis St. will be impacted by the construction.

Anyone looking for further information about the project can visit the town's website.
