Reaction To Disaster Being Applauded

LaSalle's mayor is proud of first responders in the wake of an unfamiliar situation.

"There was no panic in their eyes, they just focused on their job, and you could see that they just knew exactly what they were supposed to be doing next," says Ken Antaya.

"They consulted each other. Fire and police were communicating amongst each other, along with hydro crews and public works crews."

The mayor can't remember the last time a tornado had touched down in town, but says both the Island View Marina and the site where roofs were ripped off homes on Victory St. were cleared very quickly. Hydro was also restored to affected areas within hours.

Antaya is thanking residents for fully cooperating with emergency crews immediately after the storm hit.

"They stood aside and let [the emergency responders] do their jobs," he adds. "I think they conducted themselves very well, as well."

The Town of LaSalle will be officially reviewing how it responded to last night's disaster, but the mayor believes that with no injuries and fast clean-up, it was the "best case scenario for an event like this."
