West Nile Virus Detected in Region

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has detected the first sign of West Nile Virus in the region this year.

A mosquito pool tested positive for the virus.

Though certain types of mosquitos can spread West Nile Virus to humans there have been no human cases identified so far this year.

The health unit is reminding residents to remove standing water from their properties and to protect themselves against mosquito bites.
