Judges In Amherstburg For Communities In Bloom

A group of judges are in Amherstburg this weekend as the town competes in the 2016 National Edition of Communities in Bloom.

The town is competing against Niagara-on-the-Lake and Bois-des-Filion, Quebec in the 9,001 to 25,000 population category.

Communities in Bloom is a non-profit organization that fosters civic pride, environmental responsibility and beautification. It's committed to improving the quality of life in participating communities.

Communities in Bloom Marketing and Communications Coordinator Vivien Shum says it's an opportunity for towns to share information and best practices, and get feedback from judges on ways to adapt to climate change, use water responsibly and conserve green space. Many towns experience a decrease in vandalism and a boost in tourism.

The Town of Essex is taking part in the National Edition as well but isn't competing. Leamington and Kingsville are taking part in the Provincial Edition, called Bloom Ontario.
