The University of Windsor is sending local Olympians off with a boost of hometown spirit.
The University celebrated Noelle Montcalm, Melissa Bishop and Miah-Maria Langlois as the start their journey to the Rio Summer Games. Track and Field athlete Noelle Montcalm was overwhelmed with emotion as she witnessed the crowd at the University today.
"There's so many people here supporting us and we feel it far and wide and we are so thankful for all the people who are behind us. It was a great opportunity to say thanks," says Montcalm.
Two-time Olympian Bishop says she is more mentally prepared to face these games.
"I stand up here today, three and half weeks out from my first round at the Olympic Games feeling more confident than ever. Yes I'm very excited, very fortunate to be going to the Olympic Games but I plan not to just participate but to be one of the big guns that I was afraid of is 2012," says Bishop.
Langlois was unable to make the event at the University of Windsor today because she has already left for training camp.
The Rio Summer Olympic Games kick off on August 5 and run until August 21. Montcalm will compete in the women's 400-meter hurdles, Bishop will compete in the 800m race, and Langlois is a member of the Canadian women's basketball team.
