University Buys Up Iona College

After 50 years at 208 Sunset Ave., Iona College says it's leaving.

A statement from the college says like many other churches and faith communities; it's fallen into debt. The University of Windsor has agreed to buy the property, leaving it debt-free.

Iona will move no later than October 30, but its programs, which include student dinners, foodbank, bursaries and courses, will continue although in a different form. It's also chosen to become an ecumenical and inter-faith college preserving its tradition of serving the university and the broader community.

"Over the coming years, we hope to broaden our course offerings and improve the food bank and other programs. One of the reasons for becoming an ecumenical and inter-faith college is so that we can relaunch our chaplaincy work to embrace all faith groups."

So far, Iona hasn't finalized arrangements for its new location but hopes to announce it soon.
