58th Annual Fireworks Feature 1,000 More Effects

The Ford Fireworks start at 9:48 tonight, and if you want a good spot along the riverfront in Windsor, go early.

The 58th annual show is still 24 minutes long, but Parade Company CEO and President Tony Michaels says they've added another 1,000 fireworks, including a new one called the ghost shell.

"It goes up black, and it explodes in different colours, so you really don't see it going up, but you really see it exploding."

A total of 10,000 pyrotechnic effects will be visible along the riverfront; a display Michaels calls they're biggest yet.

Zambelli Fireworks Internationale will stage the show from barges parked in the Detroit River, and the show will be choreographed by Patrick Brault, who designed the pyrotechnic displays for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

The soundtrack will also feature some of the music artists we've lost over the past year.

"It's not necessarily a tribute track, but we've included some of those amazing artists who have passed away in the past twelve months."

Transit Windsor is offering free shuttle rides from Devonshire Mall starting at 6pm.
