More Carbon Monoxide Protection In Windsor-Essex

About 20,000 more people are protected by carbon monoxide detectors thanks to the efforts of FCA Canada employees in Windsor.

The workers with Unifor Local 444, Local 195 and Local 1498 received Ontario fire safety awards for their campaign that saw 5,000 carbon monoxide detectors sold, resulting in approximately 20,000 better protected.

Windsor Fire Services partnered with the unions in the campaign and fire chief Bruce Montone says $25,000 was raised for one of the department's fire prevention programs.

"Contributing to the Wake Up program, you're going to help so many other people in the community as well who are very, very vulnerable and most need that assistance," says Montone.

Unifor Local 444 president Dino Chiodo says working with the fire department was a natural fit.

"We saw it as us being able to do something that we can continue to build on and again connect with organizations and groups that are collaborative partners and community partners that support Windsor and Essex County to the max," says Chiodo.

The awards were given through the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal.
