Realtors Worried About Sales In Downtown Windsor

While the rest of Windsor-Essex is enjoying a boom in housing sales, the head of the Windsor-Essex County Association of Realtors is expressing concern about the city's core.

Housing sales jumped more than 18% again in May as 698 homes changed hands, compared to 588 in May of last year. So far this year, sales up are up 17% over this time last year. The average price of a home in the region climbed to $235,011.

The most sales were in East Windsor, where 88 homes were sold last month. Central/Downtown Windsor had the least at 58 sales, but the most listings with 121.

"We have a core which is sitting, very dead, and the prices of houses there haven't risen very much," says Norm Langlois.

He says the association has expressed its concerns with city councillors. He also says realtors are brainstorming ideas to boost sales.

"I think it's going to come down to the fact where we have to start knowing that we have to help, somehow," he says. "Our realtors care."
