Windsor's Salim Alaradi is free from custody in the United Arab Emirates after 643 days of being detained on terror-related charges.
Alaradi's daughter, Marwa, through the Free Salim Alaradi Campaign, issued a statement confirming his release and adding Alaradi's lawyer was notified about 10pm Abu Dhabi time the Windsor businessman could be picked up from Al Whatba prison.
Marwa Alaradi almost can't describe her elation.
"There's no description for my feelings right now. We're just very, very happy and relieved that finally my father is out of prison," she says.
The press release states Alaradi is safe with his lawyer at the moment.
Marwa says her family is currently discussing travel arrangements with Canadian authorities. She tells BlackburnNews.com her father is planning to leave for Istanbul, Turkey on Wednesday morning to seek medical attention where she and her mother will meet him.
Marwa can't wait to see her father again.
"I'm going to hug him for the first time and just have him talking to us and having this family time again is just amazing," she says, also thanking those who supporter her family during this difficult time. "I am very thankful and grateful for all their support, yet we need to remain cautious until my father leaves the [UAE] safely."
Alaradi was on vacation with his family in Dubai when he was suddenly arrested in August 2014. He was among 10 men of Libyan origin detained around the same time — some of them have since been released.
Alaradi was acquitted of terror-related charges by the top court in the UAE after 21 months behind bars. He was re-detained after his acquittal.
Marwa says her family hasn't been given any explanation as to why her father was re-detained.
