Getting Muddy For Cardiac Health

Organizers of this year's Heart Breaker Challenge expect to see 1,200 participants on the obstacle course.

Saturday's event in Malden Park raises money for the Cardiac Wellness Centre and Pulmonary Rehab Programs at Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare. Over the past four years, it's raised more than $200,000 for the two local programs.

This year, Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare CEO Janice Kaffer and Windsor business person Barry Fowler have been involved in a friendly competition to see who can raise more money. The goal is $15,000 each, and an official with the hospital confirms they had each raised at least $12,000 by Friday morning.

Promising to be a muddy and fun experience for all, people at all fitness levels are invited. It features 15 obstacles over a 6km course.

Vice-President of External Affairs at Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare, Bill Marra has been involved in the event the past three years, but this will be his second year taking part as a participant.

He says attendance over the past four years has consistently hit 1,000 with just as many people coming to watch. He expects up to 2,500 people in Malden Park for the challenge.
