UPDATE: Gasoline Odour Prompts Evacuations

Three homes in Tecumseh had to be evacuated after a strong odour of gasoline was detected in the area.

The Tecumseh Fire Rescue Service responded to the incident on St. Marks Rd. near Hayes Ave, just before 4pm on Saturday. The three homes were evacuated around 4:30pm.

Large amounts of water had to be flushed from the storm sewer due to careless dumping gasoline, which caused the odour.

The scene has since been cleared and residents were able to return to their homes at around 5:30pm. Several residents have been asked to ventilate their homes as the odour had seeped in from the sewers.

Roads in the area were also closed for a short period of time. but have since reopened.

The Ministry of the Environment has attended the scene.
