Fire Marshal Gives Amherstburg Recommendations

The Ontario Fire Marshal and Emergency Management Office is making 27 recommendations to improve the Amherstburg fire department.

The recommendations include updating bylaws and masterplans, updating equipment and testing of the town's fire hydrants according to fire code.

"There's a number of them that have already been addressed, quite a few of them are in progress and there's a few that we just haven't had time to start or are going to require some financial resources," says Amherstburg Mayor Aldo DiCarlo.

A further report is expected from the fire department with a full financial break down of what the recommendations will cost over the next two years.

"These were issues they were going to address anyway, the big issue for them is they are going to have to come forward and let us know what it's going to cost us to address all of the recommendations," says DiCarlo.

The OFMEM told council the average town receives 25-35 recommendations after a formal review from their office.
