More Upgrades Coming To Chestnut Park

After receiving a TV show renovation in 2014, Chestnut Park in Leamington is set for an expansion and the Municipality has spent nearly $200,000 buying up property for the project.

Deputy Mayor Hilda MacDonald expects the expanded park will add to the quality of life in the neighbourhood.

"That fact that the neighbours approached the television show and had the renovation done — there's certainly a need for that," says MacDonald.

On Monday night, council approved the purchase of the property at 20 Chestnut St. in the town for $85,000. A previous abutting property was bought by the Municipality for about $100,000.

MacDonald adds the park should be a more appealing part of the neighbourhood after the expansion.

"There was an alley running through that park and that will be closed off, so it'll be a safer spot for the kids," says MacDonald. "There will just be more areas to run and play and enjoy your family."

The deputy mayor hopes the expansion will help revitalize the neighbourhood.

"It sets an example for other people," says MacDonald. "Sometimes when you make that move to enhance your property, the neighbours will. We're hoping that a lot of that catches on in different parts of our community."

Time lines on construction of the park expansion haven't yet been set.

The TVO show Giver came to Leamington in August 2014 to complete the renovation job at the park.
