Downtown Market's Move Approved

When it opens in May, the Downtown Windsor Farmers Market will be located on Pelissier St. between Chatham St. W and University Ave. W.

City Council gave its blessing to the move from Charles Clark Square where the market has called home for the past few years.

The move is possible thanks to a $30,000 sponsorship deal with the Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association.

"We do see that as a pedestrian friendly move for downtown," says Chair Larry Horwitz. "We see it as a job generator; as a way of filling shops."

President of the Downtown Windsor Residents Association which runs the market, Mike Holdsworth is confident not only will patrons embrace the new location, new patrons will join them every Saturday.

"They tell us they'll go wherever the market is," he says. "The people in the vertical communities; obviously it's going to be closer for them. Parking's going to be better because parking is a lot closer than it was at Charles Clark Square."

Holdsworth believes this may be the market's permanent home.

The market runs every May 28 to October.
