Not Guilty Verdict In Murder Trial

A jury found Kristopher Hillis not guilty of second degree murder in the stabbing death of John Jubenville.

Hillis can't put into words how he felt when the verdict was read.

"I don't know...I'm sorry I can't, I don't know, I'm just too happy," says Hillis.

Hillis had been in jail since the time of the altercation in March of 2013. Police say the incident escalated at a house party on Aubin Rd. near Reginald St. and the two knew each other.

Defence lawyer Michael Gordner says the evidence they presented showed Hillis was acting in self defence.

"It's a terrible tragedy what happened, our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the Jubenville family but I think what happened that night, Kris Hillis was properly found not guilty," says Gordner.

The Jubenville family was visibly upset with the verdict.

"Kristopher Hillis had a black eye, that's it, that's all he had and we'll never get to see my dad again. He gets to walk home and be with his family. He took a very important man away," says Brooke Bratt, one of four daughters of Jubenville.

"He was in jail for three years. My dad is gone forever. Justice was not served, I don't believe in our justice system," says Bratt.
