Amherstburg Averts Strike

Employees at the Town of Amherstburg have labour peace for the next four years.
A midnight strike was averted when the majority of the 55 members of the IBEW Local 636 accepted the town's final offer presented Monday.

Mayor Aldo DiCarlo says the contract includes a signing bonus in the first and second year of the agreement as well as a 0.5% wage increase in the second year and a 1% increase in the third and fourth year of the agreement.

DiCarlo says the contract also increases the number of full-time positions at the municipality.

"They'll get more full time jobs which hopefully some of the part-timers can move up to and the town will be able to reduce some of its overtime and outsourcing costs in that respect," says DiCarlo.

IBEW Local 636 represents workers who work at town hall, and employees who maintain the roads, the water distribution system and parks.
