Engineering Firm To Investigate LaSalle Flooding

The Town of LaSalle has hired a consulting firm to access infrastructure in an area that has suffered severe flooding.

Mayor Ken Antaya says the study by Stantec Consulting will map out the infrastructure in place in the Oliver Farm and Heritage Estates areas, and make recommendations for future development needs.

LaSalle has complained about flooding on two occasions since construction on the Rt. Hon Herb Gray Pkwy. started. Antaya says the area didn't have any issues before construction. So far, the province hasn't agreed to pay for any improvements in those neighbourhoods.

He says the town isn't letting the Ministry of Transportation off the hook, but studies like the one being carried out by Stantec are routine and prudent planning.

"We're concerned about whether or not Herb Gray Pkwy. contributed to the flooding issues," says Antaya. "We want to make sure that the drainage is being attended to on a local level, and we want to determine whether or not there's any responsibility by the Herb Gray Pkwy."

The study will cost $105,786.

Stantec Consulting is also studying flooding issues in Essex.
