Windsor fire officials say residents of 32 units in an apartment building at 2455 Rivard Ave. in Windsor will be displaced following Wednesday morning's fifth-floor blaze.
Two of the families have nowhere else to go and are being cared for by the Canadian Red Cross. Hotel accommodations and food are provided for 72 hours. After that lapses the agency will work with the city for a long-term solution.
The flames broke out around 7:15am.
"First it was like a big boom," says resident Cary Kirby. "Then it was a bunch of aerosols can booms."
Three people were taken to hospital, one of which suffered minor smoke inhalation, while the other two were taken for an assessment.
The Ontario Fire Marshall has been contacted and will be attending the scene Thursday morning to investigate.
