Catholic Schools Seeing More Students Than Expected

The Windsor-Essex catholic school board is roughly 400 students ahead of its projected enrollment for the fall.

"Based on the fact that we budgeted on a lower number of students, this has a positive impact all the way around," says Barbara Holland, chair of the board.

Holland points to a couple of factors she feels are responsible for the better than projected enrolment numbers.

"It tells us that parents are attracted by the academic achievement that we have been posting year after year and we think parents are also telling us that they like the new programs that we've put in place," says Holland.

Director of Education Paul Picard tells BlackburnNews.com a "significant number" of the roughly 400 enrolled are non-Catholic students the board seeing the results of allowing non-Catholic students to join the local Catholic school system.

Despite the better than projected numbers, the board is still seeing an overall decline in enrolment.
