Developers Unimpressed With Essex Ban

Home developers in Essex aren't happy with a moratorium on new builds in the town.

Councillors are taking the action to prevent added stress on the town's sewer system as flooding complaints pour in.

However, Ben Klundert of BK Cornerstone says new homes aren't adding to the flooding problem.

"That storm water will not mix with my sanitary water. Not in a million years. I don't care if I double up my infrastructure size, they should never meet," says Klundert, also serving as the president of the Greater Windsor Home Builders Association.

Klundert says the moratorium means he's out of business for a year in the town.

"It's costing me a pile of money to do business," says Klundert.

The ban only prevents new builds in Ward 1 and will last until September 1, 2016 at the longest, but could be repealed by council sooner. In that time, Stantec Consulting is set to review the town's policies on sanitary sewers and storm water management.
