Flooding Anger Fills Essex Council Chambers

The Town of Essex is putting a moratorium on new home builds in Ward 1 until a flooding issue can be rectified.

Glen Mills was one of the roughly 200 residents attending a heated meeting addressing the issue on Tuesday night.

"It doesn't only affect your house and your property value, but this puts a tremendous amount of strain on families, it puts a tremendous amount of strain on marriages," says Mills.

Flooding solutions could be a year away according to a report from Stantec Consulting. The town has a committee looking into the matter and councillors reaffirmed to residents they're doing what they can to deal with the problem.

Mills isn't entirely convinced in the town's response.

"I was disgusted with the way the mayor dealt with it [at the meeting] and I was disgusted with some of the councillors as well and the way they went about their business," says Mills.

Some residents are considering legal action against the town because of the flooding with Mills suggesting up to 40 people have "made it very, very clear" that a lawsuit is the route they would like to take.
