Local water levels are rising after Environment Canada says Windsor-Essex was hit with 75 mm of rain between 2pm yesterday and 3am today.
That smashes the old September 3 record of 49 mm, set back in 1981.
Even though there's a chance of rain today, Essex Region Conservation Authority Director of Watershed Management Services Tim Byrne says local waterways are low enough that there shouldn't be flooding.
"If we have another significant rainfall event -- more of a regional system -- hit us, then those waterways will rebound and respond very quickly, because they're just now starting to receive the runoff from the rainfalls yesterday," he explains.
Bryne says yesterday's forecast called for about a third of the rain that ended up being dumped on the region, so ERCA will be watching today's forecast closely to see if a flood advisory needs to be issued.
