Door-to-door mail delivery has resumed in some Tecumseh neighbourhoods where community mailboxes have been installed that are "not safe."
"Unfortunately, some of the sites were certainly not up to our standards and actually completely unacceptable," says Canada Post spokesperson Anick Losier.
The locations in question have been roped off for the time being.
"We're working on fixing them and getting them up to our standard," she says, adding that should be complete later this month.
Canada Post is taking full responsibility for the "poor work." Officials admit things were being rushed to meet a deadline.
"It has a bit of a snowball effect if that date is not met for one or two or five or ten sites," says Losier.
Even on the weekend before the community mailboxes went live, Canada Post says installation was still underway.
"They were not done properly and as soon as we realized that, we just decided to continue door-to-door delivery," says Losier.
It's unclear when Windsor will get community mailboxes over the next three years, but officials say a lesson has been learned.
"We've definitely reviewed our process to make sure that this doesn't happen again and reviewed the work with our contractors," says Losier. "We're just going to make sure that we give ourselves enough time to do the installation properly."
