Library To Display Auto Archive

An automotive archive dating back to the 1940s will soon be rolled out at the Windsor Public Library.

Board chair Peter Frise says the library has a "huge" collection of auto material. "By that I mean things like vehicle service manuals for cars from the 40s and 50s," he says.

"Dealer publicity material -- you know when you go into a dealer to look at a new car they give you a brochure on the car. Well they have brochures that go back 40, 50 years and more."

Most of the material is in mint condition and has never left the library. It's currently being organized and cataloged. Frise says Windsor is in a unique position to showcase its automotive roots to the world. "I think it's important because it's what has propelled our city as an important part of Canada's economy," he says.

The auto display will open to the public in the coming months at the library branch on Ouellette Ave.

"I know automotive enthusiasts from all over North America who will want to access this material," says Frise. "We want to have a way of sharing it with people and displaying it and letting people enjoy it."
