Major Reconstruction Project Starts On Todd Lane

Phase one of a major reconstruction project on Todd Ln. in LaSalle gets underway today.

Todd Ln. will be closed between Malden Rd. and Canada St. for the next four months while the town puts in a new water main, storm sewer, rebuilds the road and constructs a trail.

There is a detour in place. Drivers are asked to use Normandy St. to Huron Church Line Rd. to Hwy.3.

Phase one of the project is expected to cost $4,359,000. The second phase, between Canada St. and Tenth St. will go to tenders later this summer. The entire project is expected to wrap up either this fall or early next year.

LaSalle town council first approved the project in 2012, but Mayor Ken Antaya has been delayed a couple of years. "We were supposed to begin construction in 2013, but then there were delays on the Herb Gray Pkwy. And then we decided to go to 2014, but there were delays on the Herb Gray Pkwy," he says. "They weren't supposed to be closing two main arterial roads like Huron Ln. and Howard Ave. simultaneously. But, they did. So we decided to keep Todd Ln. open."

Council finally gave the go ahead in May.

Keeping Todd Ln. open during parkway construction hasn't been easy for residents living there. "When I was walking down that street, I was thinking 'My God, how are they enduring all this?'"

Antaya says the town has asked the province for funding to help with the costs of the project, but he's not sure when he'll get a response.
