West Nile Virus Is Here

A mosquito pool in Windsor-Essex is testing positive for West Nile Virus.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit says there aren't any human cases at this time, but this pool testing positive is the first sign of the virus in our community this year.

In 2014, only one out of 400 mosquito pools tested ended up positive.

The health unit is reminding everyone to use deet and wear proper clothing when outdoors to protect against mosquito bites. Eliminating standing water on your property also helps limit places where mosquitoes can breed.
