New Industry, Jobs Almost Here

A brand new industry may be coming to Windsor along with at least 80 new jobs, but the city's mayor is keeping the details secret for now.

Mayor Drew Dilkens won't say what company, but did confirm they are manufacturing jobs.

Dilkens says the deal is just about done. "The initial steps have been taken and we have an initial agreement with the proponent," says Dilkens. "We'll work with that agreement to put together the formal legal document, but clearly if we couldn't get to this point there was no hope at all and this is really, really close. We're very, very confident we're going to get there."

He adds the company possibly coming to Windsor doesn't currently operate in Canada. Dilkens says a formal announcement should be made "very soon."

"It's something that allows us to continue to diversify the economy and get out of automotive, even though we really support automotive, and trying to provide other opportunities," Dilkens says.

Another announcement on jobs spearheaded by the mayor is expected next month.
