Amherstburg Police Contract Talks Continue

Contract negotiations between Amherstburg police and the town should be complete in "real short order."

The force has been without a contract since January 1.

Mayor Aldo DiCarlo says both sides have met once so far, for only a few hours. "Unless it completely goes off the rails, I think we should be done in real short order," he says. "You have two parties really committed to doing what's really best for the town."

The possibility of bringing in the OPP remains on the table during negotiations. "Both parties came to the table with that understanding that it is something we're investigating," he says. "And the possibility of that will be reflected in what the new contract looks like."

DiCarlo isn't willing to reveal some of the issues being negotiated. Both sides are scheduled to meet in the next few weeks.
