Windsor is now home to Canada's first cross-border hub for the life sciences industry.
Businesses will be using one wing of Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare to network, conduct research, and get help for expanding their enterprises internationally.
Stephen Bartol, CEO of Michigan-based medical device-making company Sentio, says Windsor's the perfect spot for this hub because Canada's more open to innovation and there are more resources available on this side of the border. "Principal among those (resources) is a tax system that is very favourable to research and development, and a regulatory approval process which is very easy to navigate."
Bartol says companies will also be able to get a better grasp of what it takes to get a product into market, as they'll be so close to Windsor and Detroit's health care systems.
The hub will also have a home online, and as long as certain criteria is met, the Windsor-Essex Economic Development Corporation is welcoming new businesses with open arms.
