Parkway Work Damaging LaSalle Roads

LaSalle's mayor is planning to ask the province for money to repair roads damaged by trucks during construction of the Herb Gray Parkway.

Ken Antaya says Todd Lane took a beating when Huron Line and Howard Ave. were both closed simultaneously. "We feel that the town in this respect has taken one for the team, so to speak, by leaving that road open and exposing our residents to additional traffic," Antaya says.

Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara says it's not just LaSalle seeing damaged roads due to parkway construction.

"There was always an intent that by creating diversions and other roads, we were supposed to be taken care of," says McNamara. "LaSalle probably had the greatest impact, but we certainly felt the impact in our own community as well where roads are taking a pounding because of the amount of truck traffic."

Antaya made a notice of motion Wednesday night seeking Essex County Council's support as it seeks funding from the Ontario government.
