Atkinson Memorial Never Gets Easier

It's been nine years since the murder of Windsor Police Service Constable John Atkinson.

A ceremony was held in his honour at Windsor police headquarters Tuesday morning.

Atkinson's wife Shelley says it never gets any easier, but she's happy her husband is remembered in this way. "It means the world to us. It means a lot to me, the kids, John's parents, all the family, and all the friends. It makes us stronger."

Atkinson was shot in 2006 near Pillette Rd. and Seminole St. while trying to bust a drug dealer. He was survived by his wife and two kids, Mitchell and Nicole, who are now 18 and 16 years old.
