Windsor Identifying Long-Term Vision

The City of Windsor is taking the first steps in creating its 20-year plan.

Principal of StrategyCorp John Matheson, who has been helping Canadian municipality's develop long-term plans for the last 17 years, met with Windsor's council Wednesday morning.

He says it's key to build on what the city currently has going for it, and one major building block is already in place. "Fiscal sustainability is, in many respects, the thing from which everything flows. I mean, it's like in the spring, you plant flowers in the soil right, and it really has to be recognized the huge progress that's been made to get the city's finances in order. So on top of that then, what are you going to plant in it?"

Matheson's meeting one-on-one with council members and city staff over the next couple of days before everyone meets again, as a group, on May 7. That's when visions for the city and ideas for slogans, among other things, are expected to be tabled.

Beyond that meeting, options will be presented to the public sometime in June, with a 20-year plan expected to be decided upon by the end of the summer.
