Windsor Committed To Bike Plan

Some residents on Roselawn Dr. in Windsor aren't happy, but the City of Windsor is sticking to its plan of painting bike lanes on the street.

Laura McLaren surveyed her neighbourhood and found 52% to be in favour of street parking over bike lanes. "We want on-street parking to accommodate cars coming to our homes. If we have elderly or handicapped people in our family, we need to access our front doors with ease. We don't want to have them coming from down the street and around the corner."

But Mayor Drew Dilkens says that won't be a problem. "There's common sense here. So, the example given tonight is, 'what if I have to get my tree trimmed?' Or, 'what happens if I have a handicapped person who needs to be brought to my house?' If they had to park on the road to help someone who is disabled get out of the vehicle, no one is going to give that person a ticket."

Part of Roselawn Dr. had been reconstructed last year, and it's part of the City of Windsor's new plan to paint bike lanes on re-done roads it feels are busy enough to warrant them.
