Ontario Ombudsman Andre Marin has found Amherstburg Council once again went against the Municipal Act.
During the first regular meeting of the new council on December 10, they held an in-camera session to discuss signing authority for the treasurer, which Marin ruled should have been discussed in public.
Mayor Aldo DiCarlo calls it a learning experience. "Because we were only dealing with the duties of the position, it wasn't exactly what the intent of the law is in that respect."
Marin has issued three recommendations.
DiCarlo feels they are doing a better job at holding fewer in-camera meetings than the previous council. The town had come under fire from Marin previously over the number of meetings it held behind closed doors.
